2017 Online Application Form for Helpers, Doctors, Nurses, Chaplains and Pilgrims

Please now read the following guidance notes, so that you enter the correct information when asked.

Please complete this Application Form for each individual pilgrim. Please note, your application cannot be processed unless you confirm, when asked on the application form, that you have read and agreed to the Statement of Commitment and Code of Conduct, which can be accessed by clicking here. It may be worth printing these instructions before you start, so that you can refer to them when filling out the form.

The closing date for applications is 30th April 2017. Please apply early to avoid disappointment. 1. £695 - Pilgrimage Cost inclusive of Transport and Full Board Accommodation
2. £545 - Pilgrimage Cost inclusive of Full Board Accommodation and transfers from/to Toulouse (Easyjet flight) *

6. £100 - Subsidy, if required, is available for helpers in full time education and/or under 25 (Please indicate on the application form your need for a subsidy)

Reductions are available for children up to the age of 12 - please contact the Pilgrimage Office for further information. There is no charge to children up to the age of 3 by 31st August 2017.

Final balance due by 31st May 2017 unless a payment plan has been agreed with the Pilgrimage office. (Final balance for payment plans to be completed by 31 August 2017)


You will be asked to enter your personal details, which will include:

1. Whether you wish to travel on the Pilgrimage Package, which includes travel and accommodation (your travel will be allocated by the Pilgrimage Office), or will be travelling independently.
The Pilgrimage Package is only available to Assisted Pilgrims, their family and/or carers and Helpers, Doctors, Nurses and Chaplains, all other Pilgrims should make their own travel arrangements.
Please note that some pilgrims may be asked to travel one day earlier and/or one day later.
2. (*) If you have booked the Easyjet flight and require transfers from/to Toulouse.(Flight EZY5333 departing Gatwick on 28th July and Flight EZY5338 departing Toulouse on 3rd August 2017).
3. If travelling independently to Lourdes you will be asked how you are travelling and what time and date you expect to arrive in Lourdes.
4. (**) If you will be arriving earlier and need to stay an extra night in the hotel you need to notify us immediately. Please do not assume you will be in the same hotel you have stayed in the past. The Pilgrimage will arrange for your extra nights at your allocated hotel. You will need to pay the hotel directly for any extra nights required.

Before starting your application, please make sure you have the following documents with you:

✔ Your DBS disclosure certificate (if you have one)

Please indicate whether you require any financial assistance with the cost of your Pilgrimage to Lourdes through the Lourdes Pilgrimage Trust Fund. Please indicate your intention to apply for a subsidy when asked on the application form, a Subsidy form will then be sent to you, and this information will be kept confidential.

Please note that if you are a Catholic in year 11 or upto 24 years old at the time of the Pilgrimage, it is also possible to apply to your local group of Catenians for financial support. Each circle is very supportive of those helping in Lourdes, and we have had some notable successes in the past. A Bursary Application Lourdes Pilgrimage Form is available from the Lourdes Pilgrimages section on the Catenians website.

The final balance of your invoice must be paid by 31st May 2017 unless a payment plan has been agreed.

Please indicate if you wish to pay the balance by instalments. Having agreed a payment plan with the Pilgrimage Office, a standing order form will be sent to you to complete and send to your bank. Final payment of the instalments must be paid by 31 August 2017.


When in Lourdes we offer our service to the Pilgrimage in the following ways:-

Helper: Helpers are volunteers who offer their service to others on the pilgrimage in a spirit of love and generosity. You will be expected to help our Assisted Pilgrims, as part of a team, either in a Hotel group or in the Accueil. The service is varied and can be demanding both physically and emotionally. Because of the nature of the service, helpers must be fit and willing to participate fully with reverence, respect, generosity and consideration in all areas as detailed in the "Role of the Helper" link here

Doctor or Nurse: Only Doctors and Nurses who are actively working in the UK and fully registered are able to join us in this capacity during our week away. Retired and other Healthcare professionals have skills that can help us whilst in Lourdes, so if you are retired, please feel free to contact Dr Jane Pateman, our Chief Medical officer (CMO) at lourdes@dabnet.org

Clergy/Religious: Not all clergy, deacons or religious wish to be a chaplain in Lourdes. If this is the case for you, please let the office know, and they will ensure that you are not allocated any duties. lourdes@dabnet.org

Pilgrim: You are totally independent and do not need any assistance at home, or more specifically in Lourdes. Any pilgrim, who subsequent to applying for a place is requested to complete an additional Medical Form and give full access to their GP and other Medical Professionals managing their care needs by the Chief Medical Officer, but refuses to do so, cannot be accepted on our Pilgrimage.


Pilgrim's Preparation Day - Saturday 17th June at DABCEC, 4 Southgate Drive, Crawley, RH10 6RP from 10.30am and finishing with prayers at around 3.00pm.

A day for all new pilgrims, assisted or able, who want to find out more about what going on pilgrimage is all about. You will have a chance to meet others, explore the meaning of pilgrimage and prepare for our week in Lourdes. There will also be a time of reflection and prayer with an introduction to this year's theme "The Lord has done great things for me".

NEW HELPERS DAY - Sunday 25th June at St Wilfrid's School, Old Horsham Road, Crawley RH11 8PG

All first time Helpers must attend the Induction Day from 10am and finishing with Mass at around 3pm.

You will also be asked who introduced you to the Arundel & Brighton Pilgrimage, and if you are at school or university, or have just left, which school you attend(ed) and which year you are/were in.

MUSIC PRACTICE - Sunday 16th July at St Bernadette's RC Church, Tilgate Way, Crawley, RH10 5BS from 12noon until 6pm. All musicians and singers are respectfully asked to attend this day of preparation.

BRIEFING DAY - Sunday 23rd July at St Wilfrid's School, Old Horsham Road, Crawley RH11 8PG

All Helpers must attend this important preparation day from 9.30am and finishing with Mass at around 4pm.


In line with the Diocesan Safeguarding Policy, ALL HELPERS, (INCLUDING DOCTORS, NURSES AND CHAPLAINS) are required to have an Enhanced DBS Disclosure Certificate.

Please note, if you are applying to join us as a Helper, without a DBS certificate issued within the last 3 years, it will not be possible for you to participate fully in our Pilgrimage, so it is very important that we start this application process as soon as possible. All DBS applications must be completed by 31st May 2017.

You will be sent the appropriate documentation if you do not already have an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate or if it needs to be renewed.

If you have an existing DBS certificate from a 3rd party organisation, it may be possible for us to use this disclosure, if you registered the certificate within 19 days of the original certificate having been issued. If in doubt, please provide the information when requested on the form, and the Pilgrimage office will contact you to discuss any problems encountered.


All pilgrims are included in a group Travel Insurance Policy held by the Pilgrimage Trust. The cost is included in the quoted price. Pilgrims with pre-existing health conditions need confirmation from their GP of fitness to travel. A copy of the Travel Insurance Policy will be sent with your confirmation of booking. Independent travellers are covered for the duration of the pilgrimage from 27th July to 4th August 2017. Separate cover should be arranged for those travelling outside of this period. Mobile phones, musical instruments, computers, and loss of unattended personal possessions are specifically excluded.


You will be asked to complete the Confidential Medical Questionnaire. As our Doctors will support you whilst we are in Lourdes, it is important that you provide details of your medical condition(s) and treatment. We will not be able to accept this application if the Medical Questionnaire has not been completed.


ALL PILGRIMS need an EHIC which will be required in the event of a pilgrim needing medical attention in Lourdes. The EHIC (which is free of charge) can be obtained online at www.ehic.org.uk or phone 0300 330 1350. Please note that an EHIC must be obtained to validate your travel insurance.


If you are a non-British/EU citizen you may need a visa to travel to France and possibly specific permission to re-enter the UK. Please check with your embassy and the French embassy to be sure about what you need. It is your responsibility to ensure you have valid travel documents.


The Trust has a Health & Safety Policy. All pilgrims are expected to follow any health and safety procedures laid down by the organisation and behave in a responsible manner for their own welfare and the welfare of others. A copy of the policy is available from the Pilgrimage Office on request.


Complete travel details and final pilgrimage instructions will be sent approximately two weeks before the day of departure. These will only be sent if full payment has been received by the 31st May or a payment plan is in place.


Under the Data Protection Act personal information from the booking form will be registered on a computerised database for processing applications.


If you are under the age of 18, or if you need assistance from a third party when making decisions, we ask that you print your confirmation email and the enquiry confirmation document when you receive it, and then ask your parent, guardian or advocate to enter the information below at the bottom of the email:
